I began my career in design at the age of two. My parents apparently had trouble getting me to write as drawing pictures to communicate was so much easier for me.
In 1991 a began an A level art course, after a strange couple of years trying to be a scientist in college. This didn't work out for many reasons, but mostly because I thought it was boring. Throughout this time I did pride myself on my diagrams and drawings of cell structures, ray diagrams and complex molecule diagrams. Maybe I should have thought about becoming a designer then.
Then college and university - first Foundation, then HND, then a 1st class honours degree at Portsmouth University in Typographic Design.
I started work in Manchester for a small design agency called Fresco. It was a good start and I learnt a lot very quickly. Producing work for some large clients such as Kelloggs whet my appetite for working for bigger and better clients, on projects I wanted to work on.
After 6 months working in Sydney, Australia for the hippest design agency in the country - Spike, upon my return I landed a job with one of the big globals in London - Agency.com. This was a turning point in my career.
After slowly working my way up the pecking order and working on some big accounts I found myself as the Art Director in creative control of the One 2 One redesign of their website. This involved a large amount of consultancy, a great deal of project management, inter-agency liason and sub-contracting.
Following working for Agency.com for two years I moved to Cardiff and went back to more print work and slowly building an interactive design team for Cardiff's largest design agency, Peter Gill & Associates. When I left twelve months later, i'd help build the team to five designers and technical staff working with the technical director and managing director.
This brings me to my current job as a designer at BBC Wales in Cardiff. I have the enviable position of working on all content (except education & tv related sites) on bbc.co.uk/wales and /cymru.
Earlier this year I became infactuated with Web Standards and User Centered design and was lucky enough to attend SXSW in Austin, US last year
