I got into work this morning, promptly fired up safari and checked over at Stopdesign (as I usually do every couple of days). He’s changed the design slightly…

Email received from Douglas Bowman after I informed him of the slight bug with the primary naviation on his site ... think I touched a nerve ;)

Hey Graham,

I actually *did* pay attention to IE5/Mac-OS9, and took great care to
make sure the site rendered as expected in that browser. The navigation
renders--and has rendered--exactly as I wanted in my install (version
5.1.7), and in all the other recent installs of OS9’s IE5/Mac I’ve
seen. Attached within is a screen capture as evidence. I tested Shaun’s
site, and it too renders beautifully in IE5.1.7.

For what it’s worth, older versions of IE5/Mac had a few serious
rendering bugs and flaws--specifically with CSS floats--that Tantek
?elik and his team at Microsoft worked hard to fix in later versions of
5.1. If you’re still using anything other than 5.1.7 (released July
2003), you’re bound to start seeing more and more sites with rendering
problems.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Doug

Mmm, a raw nerve I think.

I saw him at SXSW, he was in a couple of panels about CSS. Very talented bloke, quite inspiring really. His presentations were superb. if you get time, have a look at them at Stopdesign.

A picture of Mark BoultonI'm a graphic designer from near Cardiff in the UK. I've been a designer for over ten years now and primarily work on the web. I'm still partial to a bit of print every now and then though. I used to work for Agency.com in London as an Art Director before working as a Senior Designer for the BBC in sunny Cardiff. This was all before I took leave of my senses and formed my own design consultancy, Mark Boulton Design Ltd.

I've got a thing about grids and typography and occasionally ramble on about them to anyone who will listen.

If you're after simple, clean and effective web design; let me know.
