Designing for the Web: Available to buy and download now

In the hubbub of the launch this morning, I totally forgot to blog about the launch of Designing for the Web. So, there, I’ve said it. It’s available and ready to download now. I hope you like it.

PS. If you signed up for a coupon, they’re trickling out over the course of today and tomorrow. We’ve had some mail server issues (typical!).

Congratulations on the release. I’ve been anticipating it for a VERY long time. Didn’t have the patience to wait for my coupon, so just bought it right away. I’ve read through 120+ pages now in one sitting, and I must say: I’m impressed.

One issue though: My name is “Mads Kjær” (with a Danish æ) and on the bottom where it says “licensed to [name]” my last name is all scrambled (KjÄ|r). I am almost certain this is just an issue with the PHP editing the PDF not recognizing foreign characters. Just wanted you to know.

Once again, I’m VERY impressed and looking forward to seeing more blog posts about the release.

I’ve downloaded my copy and will be reading throughout the week. Good job Mark, it all looks great.

LOVE the book. Excellent theory and cases, and a great read overall. Thanks and congratulations on this.

Anyone know if coupons are still available?

Very good book! Congratulations. I have almost read everything last night. I also like the parts about starting your business a lot. Lots of practical tips. Thanks Mark, succes.

The book is great Mark. It’s well worth the brewing time it’s had as it is a really excellent primer for web design.

It reminds me a lot of ‘Stop stealing sheep’, it’s often simple and accessible but obviously backed by your knowledge and rigour as a designer.

The whole thing shows great judgment in just what to cover too.

Now where do I sign up for the grid systems book?

    Phil

    Awesome :) !

Will it ever be released in paper?

Just want to know before buying the pdf version ;)

Just bought it, in work right now so I can’t read it. Been waiting for years, what’s a few more hours:D

Congratulations to Mark for getting this done and out on his own back:)

    So great news Mark!

I’m waiting for the coupon to buy a 5 user license. I’m sure this book is going to be a reference for every single web designer and for tech people that, like me, wants to know more about the strings behind a web design.

As asked before.. is this going to be released in paper (maybe via lulu.com)?  I remember this stated in a pre-launch mail…

  10. Robin Jakobsson said on: February 3rd, 2009 at 2:25 pm

I’ve got the PDF now, couldn’t hold myself ;). Nice work!

I read in the previous blog entries that a paper version might be coming if the PDF sales go well… Let’s hope for it to happen :) !

Congratulations on the book launch Mark! I can’t wait to buy this and get it printed out so I can study in great detail. Nice one!

Mark, I just downloaded the book and am very excited to read a design book geared to us web people.

BTW — my print designer office mate is curious about the body text typeface. Can you tell us what you used?

Thanks again for providing this great resource.

Just want to repeat what said over at Colly’ site.

I have waited for so long to have a book of this type to come along and it doesn’t disappoint. There are a lot of books out there that focus on the technology, however few focus on the fundamental design aspects of the web medium.

It’s clear also that a lot of hard work was put into writing it, and it certainly was worth the effort. It would be the perfect literature to hand out to students in college or university who are learning web design as part of their design curriculum.

    Highly recommended indeed. Congratulations, Mark.

I am still waiting for the coupon.

Kisan, you’re not the only one waiting for your coupon … .

  16. Kisan said on: February 5th, 2009 at 2:13 am

Got my coupon and the PDF.

Great reading. Was worth waiting for this book.

Looking forward to receive my coupon and place an order. Seems like the waiting is over.

I think I will download the book and see what it has to offer. I am sure I will like it.

Is this book suitable for a rookie?  Could you senf me a voucher please?

I have alot of “simple” questions regarding the composition portion of the book, is there any plans to have a forum or yahoogroup setup?

My question is are you supposed to start designing the wireframes according to the grid you setup, then continue to design off that. I just did a quick wireframe not based on any grid. But it looks you start using the grid in the inf architecture stage before you get to design. Is this true?

The book is great by the way.

  21. Kisan said on: February 7th, 2009 at 3:50 pm

It will be great to have a forum to discuss the various aspects of design as written in the book.

What email address were the coupons send under? I’ve been checking my spam folder assiduously for days.

Which makes me sound very cheap. On the other hand, the collapse of the Australian dollar makes a

Huh. Looks like the commenting system choked on the pound symbol I inserted above. I’d have though Unicode characters would be OK.

Anyway, I was trying to say that even a 2 UK Pound Sterling discount makes a major difference given the disastrous state of the AU dollar!

Nice site. This will inform techniques for designing website using the principles of graphic design.

Still waiting for mine too, but what’s a few days after few years!

The ebook sounds interesting. But how can one get a coupon?
