Fair enough. I don’t know enough about what he’s up to these days but i’d like to know more. To be honest i’d be happy if he did another KLF chillout album.

Guy - I’m not sure Graham was taking a pop at you, I know he feels pretty strongly about this kind of stuff. I’ve never really seen any of Bill’s work and i’m kind of in mixed feeling about his work. I thought his presentation was great, really interesting. But some of his work, particularly the God thing, left me feeling a bit confused as to his reasons for doing it.

As Allan points out, it is just titillation I guess. But BIll would probably say - what’s wrong with that? I don’t even know if he was trying to make any kind of statement with it. One thing i’m quite sure of is if he takes that across the southern states in the US I think he’s going to get more than a defaced painting.

Being a Yank myself, I don’t quite know what the fuss is about Bill Drummond (though I lived in East Anglia as a boy).

What he’s done with the God bit, though, sounds no more original than Duchamp’s bit of porcelain at the Armory Show of 1913. There’s no real statement; just someone who wants to be titillated by other’s reactions.

I’m not a teenager, yet what Bill Drummond does has always appealed to me. So I think you’ve generalised a little there Graham. I know plenty of other’s who’ve enjoyed his work who equally are not part of the pathetic teenage minority of which you speak. I’ve enjoyed his biography, his ‘manual’ and all the exciting music he generated as the timelords, klf and all the odd web-projects he’s since been involved with. As with any artist, he has his bad points. I think you and Drummond both have a lot in common since you both seem to be interested in generating a reaction through your carefully chosen words and phrases.

It’s interesting though Graham how such a statement can produce such a polorised reaction, and you yourself have just demonstrated this.

After listening to Bill, he did come across at pretending to be naive about his last project. Why do it at all, if not to get reaction? But what’s wrong with that? I don’t know, talking about art really starts to do my head in.

Now gardening, there’s an interesting subject - where’s my spade

Controversial posters have had their day and phrases like Bill Drummond uses only appeal to a pathetic teenage minority.

Great idea. Maybe Cradle of Filth should have thought of that. Thanks for the info. Good to see he’s not mellowed in his old age!

I’m sure he won’t mind me posting it here.

Well, it’s pretty mad. He was telling us two of the jobs he’s got on at the moment. “Making Soup” and “God is a c**t*.

The first involoves him drawing an imaginary line between Belfast and Nottingham and if you live anywhere on that line Bill Drummond will come and make you, your family and close friends some nice hot soup. What’s the thinking behind this? No idea, maybe he thinks it will be nice thing to do.

The other is a bit more thought provoking. He’s producing huge posters with the words “God is a c**t” on them, exhibiting them with a notice by them stating that work is not considered finished until people have had their say about it (by writing on the canvas). Well, you can work out what was written. Why is he doing this? I have absolutely no idea.

Please tell me more about what Bill Drummond said! Even if you just email me personally. I’m a lifelong fan of his work - music, art and writing - a guy who spent 24 hours driving round the M25 and quite happily burned a million quid. A fascinating enigma no less.
