SXSW panels: Take two

In March I’ll be heading over to Austin for the third time for the SXSW Interactive conference. This time I’ll be on one panel: ‘Web Typography Sucks’ with the guy behind The Elements of Typographic Style Applied to the Web and fellow Britpacker, Richard Rutter of Clearleft. The second panel isn’t really a panel at all, but a ‘’Power Session’: “Grids Are Good, and How to Design with Them’ with my good friend, Khoi Vinh.

Got my work cut out

So, things are pretty busy at the moment; book to finish, new work piling up for the business (which is great—musn’t knock it), a couple of articles to write and now two panels at SXSW. I’m not going to give too much away with regards to the panels just yet, but I’m hoping they will be light and fairly entertaining yet informative. I’m pretty sure both will be practical and, if you attend (which I hope you will), you’ll come away having learnt something that you can apply day-to-day. Not sure what time we’ll be on, but hopefully it’ll be soon on in the conference so I can kick back and get over the jetlag slowly.

Oh, and if you’re coming I’ll reiterate what a lot of people are saying at the moment: book your hotel now!. Seriously, if you haven’t, you’ll be staying out near the airport. It’s getting pretty full already.

Sounds like you’ve got you’re work cut out for you but always better to be that way and having to turn work down than the other.  I’m looking forward to Five Simple Steps though.

Speaking of Web Conferences though, when are there going to be a few more UK based ones.  With SXSW, the recent Refresh06 and the upcoming Web Directions North all being based across the water it would be good to see a few more taking place on our shores?

Ian: I totally agree. Let’s have some stuff based at home! Looking forward to Five Simple Steps too :)

Definitely looking forward to both of these panels. You and Khoi both know that the two of you are major inspiration and influences on my work—so I wouldn’t miss them for the world. Keep up all the great work!

Ian and Richard: What about @media and d.construct?

    Jeff: Thanks mate!

Well true, and by the sound of it the clear:left guys & co put on a good event. Unfortunately I missed d.construct and had to settle for the podcast.  Hopefully the podcasts for SXSW and Web Directions North will be equally good. Good luck.

Sadly, I won’t be making it to SXSW this year…but if possible, can you make sure you record your panels this year…I would really like to see them.  It would mean a lot to me, because I enjoy reading your articles on how to apply graphic design principles to the web.  Thanks Dude! =)

Mark: True, true. I should be getting my @media ticket for ‘07 soon. Just a shame to hear you’re on such a great lineup that I won’t be able to attend :-)
